Another new addition
Glenstrae welcomed a new baby last month, with Beitidh welcoming the arrival of a little heifer on October 28, a mere 4 days overdue.
The new little heifer, sired by James of Cruachan is a half sister to Willa's calf Abidean James born in June, with a third calf sired by James due in the coming days - a first baby for Hoggy, so anxious days ahead. Maisie, who is currently on agistment, was due to come home this week, but unfortunately her due date, expected to be end of Jan, turned out to be VERY incorrect, and a successful AI in January means she was actually overdue. We will now have to wait a few weeks after calving to safely move them. But i will be lovely to have three calves of similar ages bouncing around together.
Sire James of Cruachan.
After much deliberation we have decided to name her Méabh (Maeve in Irish spelling). More photos will be coming but be sure to check the socials for photos in the coming weeks.
Méabh - sweetest lil gal on the block!
The others have all been keen to meet the new addition, often running to the fenceline to say hi when the opportunity arises. Kenzie's calf Tosh is growing into a nice little boy, his DNA came back and he will be a beautiful red - something we assumed based on the changing colour on his head. Willa's calf Abi is growing darker every day as she loses the chocolate calf coat. Both will be registered in the coming weeks with the Australian Highland Cattle Society.
Zelda, Andie and Bella are waiting for their date with the bull - it was supposed to be this week, doing a swap when Maisie came home, but they will now get to enjoy a smaller paddock full of lush grass that is just adding to their waistlines! Jenny Craig paddock may be required in future. Also sharing that paddock is Skunk and Blinky - two boys who definitely don't need the best grass, but you don't hear them complaining... until they hear the tractor. Then despite grass for days, they stand at the fence watching, hoping a hay bale is headed their way. Spoiler: it never is!
Stay tuned for the next new arrivals - announcements due SHORTLY!
